Collective Industry Nouns

@Max: For a whole book about such things, see James Lipton's "An Exaltation of Larks" - http://www.amazon.com/An-Exaltation-Larks-Ultimate-Edition/dp/0140170960

I have an older edition, and it's a delight.

For the EE industry, I might propose

A Brag of Benchmarks

A Cram of Cores

A Dump of Data

An Extreme of Electronics

A Fail of Forecasts

A Gush of Ghz

A Hail of Hype

A Mob of Mobile

An Optimism of Open Systems

A Pustule of PR

A Slew of Smartphones

An Unbelievable of Ultrabooks

(This stuff writes itself...)

My favorite "official" collective noun is "an unkindness of ravens", though I rarely see more than one raven at a time.  Groak.

@antedeluvian: On reflection if it hasn't already been claimed, I designate it as a slither of snakes.

Good one! (I wish I'd thought of that :-)

You can have a "knot of snakes" and a "rhumba of rattlesnakes".

On reflection if it hasn't already been claimed, I designate it as a slither of snakes.

@antedeluvian: You might "have" it. I would be long gone!

It's like they say .. I don't have to be able to run faster than the snakes ... I only have to be able to run faster than you LOL

@zeeglen: How 'bout a Union of Unicorns?

Or an "uprightness of unicorns" to better reflect their wholesomness

@antedeluvian: I seem to remeber someone making the apt suggestion of a shiver of sharks. In my case would work for snakes as well.

A "shiver of sharks" is an "official" one -- they don't use that for snakes although I agree it would be apt (as would a "scream of spiders"). You can have a "knot of snakes" and a "rhumba of rattlesnakes".

As data rates begin to move beyond 25 Gbps channels, new problems arise. Getting to 50 Gbps channels might not be possible with the traditional NRZ (2-level) signaling. PAM4 lets data rates double with only a small increase in channel bandwidth by sending two bits per symbol. But, it brings new measurement and analysis problems. Signal integrity sage Ransom Stephens will explain how PAM4 differs from NRZ and what to expect in design, measurement, and signal analysis.
