Based on the number of FPGA vendors that are showing PCIe Brigding as a key target application it would seem that PCIe will definitiely be an emerging interconnect. Note that an FPGA doing this role makes it easy to 'switch' between PCIe, Ethernet and Infiniband all in a single device. Gues thats what the FPGA guys are looking at...

I know Facebook is exploring PCIe inside the rack...and Intel is gearing up to ship silicon photonics for the same app. This will be an interesting space over the next year or two.
