bikes do have crash ratings of a sort. However the government of the US categorizes vehicles differently. In order to be sold in the states, you have to meet the minimums of your class. Being 4 wheels and average car height, it will need at least a removable door (like jeep) to be sold legally. either that or a frame piece.
What people want doesn't mean you can get it. The VW bus (bay window design) was available new in brazil until very recently but you can't import them due to safety concerns in frontal impacts.
@Caleb Kraft, I am not proposing that removing doors is any revolutionary idea by itself. But it may help in bringing weight of car down sidnificant enough to make battery engine work well and make it efficient and viable for short commute. In that snese it may become revolutionary. I am not looking at idea in isolation but the context in which its being applied and what value it brings in.
Apple was not first one to bring tablet (if I remember correctly Lenovo had it before) , but it was revolutionary since they bring in compatble software which improve the usability.
Also agree side impact crash rating will be down to ground, but bikes also dont have door, how about their crash ratings? And people do drive them and like them.
With world of car with door as default, it certainly look odd to have car without door, but why not? We have no roof car so why not no door. One can compare it to sophisticated sexy looking golf cart :)
I guess point is industry for automotive is on revolution, so many new ideas will be on table, some may not appeal at first but who know in future no door may become popular concept.
