@MarvA: And the clincher, "imagine how un-utterably cold the universe would be, if one were all alone" is classic.

I agree. This is the sort of short story that I so wish I could write. Another (even shorter one) is Silly Asses by Issac Asimov.

Did you ever read Great Sky River by Gregory Benford. That covers our meeting up (clashing with) machine civilizations.

The others were cute and inspirational, but it's got to be "made of meat" because of the ironic nature of the conclusions for isolation.  And the clincher, "imagine how un-utterably cold the universe would be, if one were all alone" is classic.

The whole theme puts prejudice in perspective.  But then again, how can sentient meat use anything else but itself as the reference point for all experience?  We try, but perception is reality for most.

One of my favorite Friday past times :-) I'd have to go with the Rubiks Cube juggler with the box story a very close second.

Well I need to give my vote to Caines Arcade. After working for one long summer at Mr Wizards Amusement center (an arcade with noisy pinpall and visoe games) I can really appreciate the quite of a cardboard version...

And the video was very inspiring too!!!

@DocDivakar: ...the cool beans are nice... keep them coming, I enjoy reading.

Thanks for the kind words -- I do think it's nice to have something fun and interesting to take a look at, just for a few minutes now and then. And I certainly do think of you as a value-adding contributer (and not just because you say nice things about my columns LOL)

Max, the cool beans are nice... keep them coming, I enjoy reading. And ignore comments from some like the one in your Fitbit article... for every one of those, there are 100 value-adding and contributing users (like to think I am one!).

@Kfield: Did you see the comment that little scamp "Truthfinder" posted on my column yesterday about the Fitbit Zip wearable electronics?

He (or she) basically called me an idiot. I don't need that (I have a wife and a mother who -- between them -- are more than capable of handling my needs in the abuse department :-)

I must admit to being a tad miffed... dare I say peeved? Just wait to you see my follow-up column, which should appear anytime soon...
