@tb100: I've only done one test so far on my bike, with the Fitbit One in my sock.

Please do report back after performing more tests

In fact I just got off the phone from a briefing about some VERY interested sensor-related stuff -- but I can't talk about it unrtil next week ... watch this space...

It seems to overestimate. I counted about 1000 times my foot did a cycle, and the Fitbit counted about 1400.

It is hard to keep an accurate count, though, when you are riding in traffic. I may try it on a stationary bike in the gym, and let it count my cycle steps.

@tb100: ...when I'm riding my bike, I stick it in my sock. I haven't checked for exact count vs cycles of peddling, but at least it is showing lots of activity now.

I'd be really interested to hear how accurate it is if you say peddle a couple of hundred cycles and then compare the "before" and "after" count on the FitBit -- it woudl be great if you coupel perform this test and then post the result here.

I have a FitBit One, which I like. I noticed that it doesn't measure too many 'steps' when I'm riding a bike. I'm not really looking for much accuracy--just some indication that I've been busy to keep me motivated and moving.

So when I'm riding my bike, I stick it in my sock. I haven't checked for exact count vs cycles of peddling, but at least it is showing lots of activity now.

@Chanj0: Modern world makes everyone busy and most of us inevitably sit most of the day...

Did you see the video of my office showing the Desk Treadmill I have in the corner. I try to use thsi for at least 30 mins a day while checking emails, hosting online chats, and stuff like that.

@Garcia: Maybe you should try to wrap it in your chest with an elastic band -- or even adhesive tape...

Oh yes, I can so see me using duct tape to attach my Fitbit Zip to my chest -- I think I'll stick with the center of my pants and an 0.1% error if you don;t mind LOL

@Frank Eory: For the ultimate gadget freak who is into monitoring diet & exercise, FitBit also makes a scale that has built-in WiFi, so your weight is automatically logged to your FitBit account.

I hadn't heard that -- that is clever -- maybe for Christmas :-)

NEXT UPCOMING BROADCAST

Drones are, in essence, flying autonomous vehicles. Pros and cons surrounding drones today might well foreshadow the debate over the development of self-driving cars. In the context of a strongly regulated aviation industry, "self-flying" drones pose a fresh challenge. How safe is it to fly drones in different environments? Should drones be required for visual line of sight – as are piloted airplanes? Join EE Times' Junko Yoshida as she moderates a panel of drone experts.
