The vertical nanowire width has to include silicon body (channel), 2x gate oxide thickness, and 2x gate thickness. So 40 nm is no surprise. Maybe this width defines a pitch, or a new feature dimension defines the node.

I love it how vertical nanowire transistors (not just imec's) can actually be 40 nm wide, even though they are supposed to be for beyond 10 nm.

I found the MEMS-based bubble switch separating blood and cancer cells particularly fascinating
