Intel Spreading the Wealth

Intel Capital is really covering its bases of late, backing a wide array of promising technologies. The one I don't get, however, is the online car rental company Savaari Car Rentals (India)--anybody got the low down on them?

All 3 cloud companies are doing online storage. What's the significance of investing into these companies instead of others?

Cloud storage is a big thing! FileForce and Cloudian both offer storage, as you say, but Cloudian is also partnered with cloud computing environments of Citrix Cloud Platform, Apache CloudStack and OpenStack. And Intel describes CloudFX as a "cloud strategy consulting and implementation service".

Most startups do need investors.  I don't know if I would want Intel to be one of them.  They do have deep pockets, but they may want more in return than they invest.  If you have a good exit strategy, it could work.

In all of these startups, Intel Capital is just one of their investors, which mitigates the risk all around.

Yes, diversity of investors helps, but Intel may be in the driver's seat.

Thanks Collin for summarizing few interesting companies and their technologies. It shows how startups are pushing the technology boundaries and some of them are finding buyers in deep pocket companies.

Looks like iIntel got some money to waste!

I cannot believe that amount of wasted resources on such poor investments:

WiTricity Corp.: Another stupid idea that is well in development in many other companies with doubtful end results

Rocketick Technology Ltd. (Ramat-Gan, Israel): Anybody who involved in EDA knows that this will not work seamlessly and would require immense labor to tweak the design to be ported on the emulation platform. Another potential failure!

SBA Materials Inc. in Albuquerque, N.M., which specializes in nanoscale porous dielectric materials using its proprietary liquid phase self-assembly technique designed to enhance the performance of both semiconductor logic chips and energy storage technologies: Oh no; another nano thing that has no real potential to be included in Si process flow

High-speed interconnectivity specialist Lintes Technologies (Taiwan): May be this is useful but I have never heard of something really innovative coming out of Taiwan!

3D software specialists DotProduct LLC in Houston, Texas, were also included for their real-time image capture system for Android tablets. Called Phi.3D, the software essentially turns an Android tablet into a 3D video image capture and processing studio: Another gamming toy!

CloudFS (Singapore), Cloudian (Japan), and FileForce (Japan): None of these countries has even produced an earth shattering technologies. Cloud computing platforms are now the domain of large IT companies in the USA!

Interlude (Israel) for its interactive video technology:??

Mobiles Republic (France/USA) for its mobile new syndicator software: What does that mean?

Perpetuuiti TechnoSoft Services (Singapore/India) for its IT disaster-recovery platform

Reduxio Systems (Israel) for its fault-tolerant data storage solution

 SkySQL (Finland)

Prism Skylabs (USA)

Savaari Car Rentals (India): Really!

Like many of you, I was saddened to hear the news of Leonard Nimoy's death. His Star Trek character Mr. Spock was an inspiration to many of us who entered technical fields.
