@Doc D. Yes, it is strange and they have no other products I know of beyond what Qualcom bought the IP and design team of.

If Qcom delivers the updates and support Arteris needs, maybe it can work. Strauss and Arteris think so. I'm playing wait-and-see

Rick, this is a strange situation for Arteris... unless it has products/IP in other areas it is actively working on. Proceeds from the NoC IP sale could be diverted to fund that.

Yes but I do not think it is wise for EDA companies to move aggressively to the IP segment. There will be a back clash. Cadence have not been as aggressive as Synopsis so far (Mentor even less). They should not go any further IMO. It will pay off for them with a larger EDA market share.

Well, the recent acquistions of cosmic circuits and tensillica are the testimony that EDA companies are going high on increasing IP portfolio. With the EDA market getting saturated, IP market provides one way to increase their revenue options....

Nevertheless, in the coming time, it would be interesting to see how the dynamics of IP market and EDA companies (especially CDNS and SNPS) would shape up!!!

I am not sure it is wise for EDA companies to grow their IP Portfolio like Synopsis did. It will come back to bite them IMO.

Looks like Cadence, which is on acquisition spree, missed the Arteris boat....

Acquisition of Arteris could have provided CDNS more strong IP portfolio to offer...

>> Can Arteris make a go of it after Qualcomm bought its patents and design team?

It is called acqui-hire and it is the new normal. Most times, you spend this money largely for offense and not defence.
