@Caleb: Not a horrible idea. I wonder if there are enough people out there who really need a pick and place to justify it?

Maybe not hobbyists -- but a small engineering company who needs to build 10 prototypes for projects before going into production... possibly...

Not a horrible idea. I wonder if there are enough people out there who really need a pick and place to justify it? I mean, I know a lot of people who love to see them and drool about them but don't really need them (like myself).

Yes, and also use the Kickstarter funds to refine the design and sell it as a pre-built unit.

they already built it, they don't need kickstarter. 

I guess they could make a kit form and get costs down by buying in bulk.
