it is, absolutely, old news.  not only is the chip nothing new (yields are higher, whoopie).  it's also not true that there's any significant difference between HPC and "Enterprise" datacenters...

I expect that there will still be a significant software piece to the solution.  It would be nice if it would just plug and play with the hardware and give you a faster machine, but I would bet that the software providers will get a cut to supply you with a license that will use the accelerator.

So many years we have been hoping for a step function improvement in acceleration for those compute hungry applications. Maybe this will be the solution. In the past the software wasn't compatible and the memory bandwidth just coudn't keep up with the accelerator. maybe these barriers will finaly come down...

As data rates begin to move beyond 25 Gbps channels, new problems arise. Getting to 50 Gbps channels might not be possible with the traditional NRZ (2-level) signaling. PAM4 lets data rates double with only a small increase in channel bandwidth by sending two bits per symbol. But, it brings new measurement and analysis problems.
