Qualcomm has been pushing AllJoyn for quite some time. And yet there are still questions as to why more of the major companies haven't joined in on this effort and which work groups and tasks AllSeeen will end up organizing.
Browsing the source code, my mind fills with reminiscences of implementations of CORBA, IrDA stacks and, perhaps, Jini. Although functional, we all know how well those fared when users tried to deploy the technology and faced frequent usage. Personally, I would have expected and preferred a carefully tailored KISS framework instead, maybe something similar to ZeroMQ's flexible "smart sockets" concept in place of a full blown client-service scheme. Hopefully the development of AllJoyn will evolve in the right direction under the Linux Foundation.
