Krisi, well I left ASIC support after 18+ years and spent 5+ as an engineering project manager, now I am back into customer support..  interesting career paths all of them!

I left 10 years ago so I am not really up to date but they are doing well, especially in storage

Krisi, yeah I remember PMC-Sierra, did not run into them in my past as I was typically full custom ASIC support and we did not focus outside of the chips.  How is PMC-Sierra doing?  I must confess to not having kept up with them as I moved on to an Engineering Project Manager position for a number of years (designing robotic control systems - what fun!).

I don't see how either company could lose out in a move like this...maybe a bit better for LSI, but Avugo is going to fare well with all the additional IP as well.

Krisi, who did you work for (if you can say at this point)?  I also worked for Toshiba, VLSI (VTI at one point, Gould AMI at one point as well) and on some IBM desgin support as well.  I would be curious to know..

Synergetic merger

This is clearly a synergetic merger with both companies benefitting as a result. There will be job losses in support divisions but Engineering should be fine.

Rick while I am not a customer I did work on LSI custom ASICs for many years.  I think that this will be a good move for LSI.  It should add to the IP for the ASICs and get a little better market share for both companies..

If you are a customer of Avago or LSI I'd love to hear your thoughts on the possible impacts for you

To say that Andy Weir's The Martian is an exploration of math, Mars, and feces is a slight simplification. I doubt that the author would have any complaints, though.
