There are a number of smaller companies that are emerging and looking to cause a stir by getting as many patents as possible.

@zewde, most of the time these smaller companies apply for patents and once they get the patent they sell the idea to big companies instead of building their own product.

IBM remains the top awardee for the 21st year in a row, with 6,809 patents -- approximately 2,000 more than the closest contender.

I am curious to know what makes IBM so successful. Why other companies cant beat IBM ?

I think it will be interesting to see what happens with software patents after the SC case. Even though Frazier doesn't think it'll have much of an effect, I bet it will somewhere down the line.

There are a number of smaller companies that are emerging and looking to cause a stir by getting as many patents as possible. That expalins all of the turmoil, if not at the top of the list, in that second and third rung.

As data rates begin to move beyond 25 Gbps channels, new problems arise. Getting to 50 Gbps channels might not be possible with the traditional NRZ (2-level) signaling. PAM4 lets data rates double with only a small increase in channel bandwidth by sending two bits per symbol. But, it brings new measurement and analysis problems. Signal integrity sage Ransom Stephens will explain how PAM4 differs from NRZ and what to expect in design, measurement, and signal analysis.
