Hmmm, I do not think the developed industrialised countries arein charge of the world economy, well not they used too anyway. There is a seismic shift in wealth and power taking place from west to east, and north to south. We ignore that at our peril....
I wonder how long emerging markets can really drive this space and when fully-industrialized countries have to once again take charge of the worldwide economy...after all they do have the advantage in terms of greater manufacturing capabilities and elaborate services as well.
It is truly a mixed bag. Mid range mobile is booming (thanks to demand from emerging markets) but other sectors which rely more heavily on demand from developed countries are suffering. The IC industry does operate in isolation from the wider economy.
