@Larry: To my guess, first 5%, will be bad apples, mainy from Intel as big corporate. If one has goofed up in corporate expectation and discipline, they may get hit.

We do need to know how the Re-prioritized Intel will look like. Where the cuts will happen is our next story.

It doesn't look like Intel is gunning all engines to try to beat ARM. Instead, it looks like a retreat. There have been 14 nm rumors for some time now. Or is the TriGate/FinFET a poison pill?

How high will layoffs go?

I'd like to see the breakdown of those layoffs. Upper management obviously blew it in terms of reading and responding to the market, but my bet is that those below them will bear the bulk of the hit. This is the point where there should be announcements of senior managers retiring and opening up positions for younger people with better perspectives on the current market.
