Looks like a good move for HP to get some value for the IP they no longer need.  Also a good move for Qualcomm to pick up some IP that they can use.

Yes, HP discontinued WebOS production just one year after acquiring the IP from Palm. It's been a few years now. This is definitely a win-win.

Looks like nowdays buying and selling patents is becoming a business on its own. Sometimes acquisition and mergers happen only for patents. BUt just selling and buying a patent, wonder whether innovation is just a commodity these days.

Qualcomm want to be a software and a solution provider in the future than just being a chip maker.

Although not a household name, many consumers have products with Qualcomm technologies embedded inside. Qualcomm seems to have mastered the process of developing and deploying proprietary patent protected technologies. I hope that they'll be able to use these newly purchased underutilized patents to make more powerful user friendly mobile products.

Valuable IP that will once again be put to good use. Definitely a win-win for both companies.

@daleste, I agree with you. This will definitely help Qualcomm, I am curious to know which other company would have shown interest to buy thse patents ?

@DrQuine, I agree with you. Infact Qualcomm is earning huge revenue by patent licensing. I am curious to know how much Qualcomm paid HP to acquire these patents.

Maybe Qualcomm needs a  PR campaign like "Qualcomm Inside".  It is difficult to be in the public eye when you are the supplier of the embedded device for another company.

What are the engineering and design challenges in creating successful IoT devices? These devices are usually small, resource-constrained electronics designed to sense, collect, send, and/or interpret data. Some of the devices need to be smart enough to act upon data in real time, 24/7. Specifically the guests will discuss sensors, security, and lessons from IoT deployments.
