Watch out for heat

That's a nice RasPi case.  My only concern is heat: that's a RasPi Model B with a rev 1.0 PC board.  Because of a design oversight corrected in the rev 2.0 PCB, the USB/LAN chip on some of those rev 1.0 boards overheat.  In an enclosed case inside a warm PC, you could easily have overheating problems if there's a lot of Ethernet activity.

This only occurs with some rev 1.0 units.  You can get heat sinks for the RasPi SoC and USB/LAN chips, which helps.

If this turns out to be the case, I suspect he could add a fan to pull cool air from the outside (front) and blow over the Raspberry PI.

Hiding a Pi

I'd like to interface a tiny PC like the Pi to a laptop keyboard and display. There are closets full of laptops with dead motherboards that could be put back to work.

Reusing a laptop monitor ends up being a financial wash. You have to purchase a driver board for it, since most have the driver integrated into the motherboard. Often, those driverboards end up costing the same as a more modern and possibly higher quality LCD.

As data rates begin to move beyond 25 Gbps channels, new problems arise. Getting to 50 Gbps channels might not be possible with the traditional NRZ (2-level) signaling.
