This may be rarified tech now, @Rick, but I am keeping my eye on it for more prosaic applications as well. Years ago I wired my house with Cat5e in anticipation of GigE, which at the time was a datacenter technology. Recently I spotted a 1000' spool of fiber at Fry's for $200.
