IP is a commodity in electronics industry, now everyone knows the value of IP and they know to make money out of it. This game will go on for ever.

Sometimes companies buy IP , just to block it from being taken by other company.

Many times , they really do not intend to build products based upon that IP.


The interesting case here is that of Google buying Motorola Mobility  to tkae hold of some 17000 patents, to counter the stiff competetion of Microsoft and Apple and later on selling the company to Lenovo at loss, but holding on dearly to those patents!
