Re: Javascript for embedded product ?

@alex_m1 Kinoma Create has 128 MB of RAM and 16 MB of ROM. But, you are correct that we can run with considerably less than that. For example, when we introduced Kinoma Play for Windows Mobile (many years ago!) those phones only had a couple MB of free RAM shared between all applications, and our JavaScript engine worked very well there.

Phoddie,thanks, i'll follow indiegogo.

BTW ,what kind of ram/flash/bom cost is needed for basic kinoma device (since i'm assuming the kit is much higher than the minimum)?

@betajet Great products often find inspiration from similar sources. :) As for Eclipse, I suppose it is all perspective - but an IDE that puts everything in one place - editor, debugger, profiler, packager, docs, samples - really helps. We'll be publishing video tutorials shortly to introduce Kinoma Studio and Eclipse to people coming to it for the first time.

alex_m1 - You've got it. We have been delivering consumer products for major brands using JavaScript for over a decade. Kinoma Create is our way of putting the latest generation of our work in the hands of makers, developers, and designers. Creating products in JavaScript is a lot of fun. We'll be postng early projects built with Kinoma Craete on our Indiegogo campaign page in the coming days and weeks.

@alex_m1, I think it is exactly the point that Peter Hoddie is making in this announcement.

I remeber reading that kinoma was fast and need lower power. If it's true , it could mean  embedded products will be created in javascript. That would be interesting.

What's with Kinoma Studio "borrowing" the compass logo from the Ångström Linux distribution?

I also have a disconnect with calling Eclipse IDE "seriously easy" :-)

What are the engineering and design challenges in creating successful IoT devices? These devices are usually small, resource-constrained electronics designed to sense, collect, send, and/or interpret data. Some of the devices need to be smart enough to act upon data in real time, 24/7. Specifically the guests will discuss sensors, security, and lessons from IoT deployments.
