@phoddie: Re: pcb -> great. From there it's just a matter of converting it to eagle format, which circuits.io can understand and make an easy to use module in circuits.io.

@DrFPGA I agree - github isn't trivial when getting started. It solves lots of tough problems though, and is a powerful tool for Makers with experience, so it is a good foundation. We've considered integrating a browser for publicly available Kinoma Platform Runtime code into Kinoma Studio, to make it more accessible. Have you seen any good models for an interface that would be easier for a novice DIYer? I like the very visual catalogs of 3D model images (e.g. http://www.thingiverse.com/newest), but code isn't as intrinsically visual.

Sharing via github is a good first step. Hopefully sharing will become popular enough that you can create your own community site to drive the DIY model to an even wider audience. I find github to be daunting for the just getting started DIYer, but maybe thats a minority view...

I believe this is only a starting point. There would be more of such kits from many semiconductor manufacturers to spread the IoT awareness

@alex_m1 Great advice, thank you! The article by Staci @ Gigaom describes the challenges faced by Makers very well. FYI - we are working on publishing the PCB design for Kinoma Create.

@DrFPGA We have a unique way of modularizing the code for interactiing with sensors and other hardware modules, so that it can be more easily shared and re-used. The logic and i/o for each sensor (or group of sensors) is contained a JavaScript module that has well defined inputs and outputs. We're using that for our own projects. We will begin sharing those via github soon.

Step #2 Crowd source application development

I like the crowd source approach as a way to excite the user community to create a wide range of low level source code modules that can then be easily put together to quickly create full applications.

Guess we need some standard interfaces and templates to get things going...

@phoddie: The best place to ask is at reddit.com/r/hwstartups a community for hardware startups people.

This is also a good summary of the problems(including the discussion):

http://gigaom.com/2014/03/11/the-new-generation-of-hardware-startups-needs-a-different-kind-of-chip-company/

Also i heard that getting access to touch screens(at a decent price) is quite hard.

Another  thing i hope there be in the future is some sort of design reuse of scehmatic+pcb , like they have in circuits.io or PADS from mentor.

@alex_ma I'm looking forward to seeing what makers create - the touch screen alone opens up many possiblities. Good question on the "distribution channel fit for makers." That's something my team is working on, so it is easy to move beyond the Kinoma Create prototype. If you have preferences or thoughts on how that should work so we best support makers, please let me know.

@phoddie: this sound really great. I'm sure many makers could build great stuff with something like this.

Does this mean that marvell will also have a distribution channel fit for makers(i.e. 500-1000 qty, easy way to buy samples, easy way to get price quotes) ?
