Greatest packer of all time

My father-in-law is the greatest packer of all time. When my wife went to college, he would pack half of her things in plastic bags to make sure he filled every crevice in the trunk. You see suitcase are inefficient because they aren't flexible enough to fill all available space.

Pack A Dishwasher Using Clever Design Thinking

It takes the thought processes of an engineer to pack a dishwasher (new design) until it is full while proposing beforehand the size of the disherwasher needed (design box size and shape). This is done without knowing the number of dishes (detail design) it takes to fill the dishwasher (design space).

Your wife and siblings (fellow designers) will want to pack the dishwasher (design approach) their own way. This must be done without ever looking inside the dishwasher (design not done yet) to see what dirty dishes (detailed component placement requirements) have been placed there. An engineer will pack the dishwasher by using experience and clever placement of the dishes (major components estimates).

When the struggle to fill dishwasher (design to the committed space) properly to get the dishes clean (meeting component requirements such as cooling, wiring, access, testing, etc.) has been completed, one is indeed thankful yet proud of the results. This is why I love proposal through design and production of products.

Do you mean I should look for dates at my local commercial appliance distributor?

That's an interesting plan but it could backfire if my true love walks by and I'm too busy drooling on a kegerator.

@The Profit: I'm single so I will resort to paper plates but I lust after a Hobart under counter comercial dish washer with heat recovery.

Maybe if you invested in a Hobart you wouldn't be single anymore. What woman wouldn't like to lay her hands on a genuine Hobart?

@Oh No: Does the wife of the Engineer read his column?

No she doesn't, otherwise I would now be singing soprano in the choir LOL

@Antedeluvian: I also take a few empty suitcases along to see how they fit in the trunk of a new car.

You, sir, are an engineer!

I could load a dish washer 10 different ways and really pack it in but I would rather not.

They wash a load of dishes in no time, have removable racks and dishes designed to fit in them available at any restaurant supply shop.

It's a heavy duty steam cleaning so you don't even have to pre-rinse your dishes if your drain line can handle it.  If your drain needs help you can do a trash pump and disposal.

The down side: they cost a bit over $5,000.

The up side, they are money makers when loaded by minimum wage help so if you value your free time above minimum wage, there is an eventual payoff.

Barton.Meeks

My daughter, a ceramic artist, decided to attack the problem by using the design of the best fitting dishes to make a set of beautiful dishes that fit well.

Because I don't have the facility to make my own plates, last time we bought a dishwasher I took along a few of my problematic dishware to try out for fit in the store.

I also take a few empty suitcases along to see how they fit in the trunk of a new car.

@Wnderer: ...take clean ones out, put dirty ones in...

I think you've got the main technique down ... now it's just a matter of finesse :-)
