Update:

 

Took a look in the only places it might be..  It appears to be lost to the annals of time.  Interesting thought, though,, maybe someday I'll rebuild it on an FPGA...

Could you post schematics somewhere?  I can't be the only one that would be intrigued by something like this.

build the circuit using 74LS-series logic. (Does anyone still do this?)

I guess sometimes we do it, even if for just plain saudosism :)

The contest is (was?) organized by Dangerous Prototypes, and many interesting stuff has popped up in 2011 and 2012. There was no contest in 2013 as far as I know, perhaps this year.
