Do you remember the Peter O'Tool (RIP) film where the doctor says something like "My Lord, your son is a paranoid scitsophenic" (sp?) and the Lord replies "He can;t be, we've always been Church of England!"
@Max, No problem and that's quite impressive! To not have a cell phone in this day and age. I tip my hat to you sir. Me on the other hand... I have a cell phone and simply don't return calls and such when I don't feel like it which sometimes leaves people offended.
It has been 10 years since I have flown. I used to carry merry-go-round organ pipes and mechinisims, as cary on. Used a cardbord box the exact size of under seat compartment. (Openable of course.) one time the Pilot asked me if I brought the Donuts. (which go good with Bacon and eggs.) The TSA guy said I was bringing "industrial clamps." according to his X-ray.
@Garcia I've traveled with some strange electronics and rf boards in my carry-on and all that ever happens is they might want to see it, ask you what it's for, then they might wipe the board and probably your hands with a clean strip of cloth before putting it in a machine to verify there are no explosive materials present. Then they'll happily send you on your way.
@Caleb Since you have experience with 3D printer: what's the price rance for a decent one? and any brand/model you recommend ? I need to start printing enclosures for my recent KickStarter project which will be my talk at 2014 Gadget Smackdown :
@Caleb Check out the "Hupfeild Phololist violano" on you tube and other video sites. It dates back to like the 1920s and is a self playing Violin piano machine, entirely pnuematic. There is also the electric Mills Violano Virtuoso. Both play from paper rolls (Which my Gadget can read.)
@Caleb, I hear you, I'll get it to you as soon as I can. But it's not the end of the world if it doesn't work out because it's the final planned enclosure of my little gadget which at best will only be demo-ed as a small mess of dev boards.
@Max: I'm helping with some of the hardware and other stuff related with CERN's White Rabbit technology. CERN guys are working in a timing & control network that beats any of the current ones, and I'm going to bring to EELive! one of the Open Hardware PCB that are under the hood
Here's another "tempting taster "of an image from one of my Gadget Smackdown talks (which, as you may recall, are to be held at EE Live! 2014 ... may the radience of Karen Field's smile once again lighten my life):
A quick question for the group - I'd like to 3D print a small something for my talk but havn't been able to find a 3D printer readily available in my area. Does anyone know if those 3D printing online services are fast enough to get it back before EE Live!?
You knwo how i always say "Cool Beans" --- well check out the following image: http://www.clivemaxfield.com/area51/temp/cool-beans.jpg
I'm the one on the right
I wa sthinking of printing a couple of copies out and framing them and having these as an extra prize -- one for each Gadget Smackdown at EE Live (Karen Field asked me to keep on saying "EE Live!") ... what do you think?
@Susan: Is the smackdown open to anyone who attends EE Live?
Attending it and listening to the talks is -- we've pretty much got all the speakers lined up -- but if someone were to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org with a really mega-cool gadget, I'm sure we could squeeze him or her in
Everyone -- Duane and I have a Kickstarter project that's poised to launch -- we've created the page and we're now just waiting for the Green Light from Kickstarter... this is one of the gadgets I'll be talking about at the Gadget Smackdowns at EE Live!Q 2014
