It is a NOR plant, for heaven's sake!

NO RATINGS
Why do these guys think that STM and Intel merged and then sold the business? NOR still has some uses, sure, but it is a dying chip. I can't claim to know the employment situation in the Italian fab, but my guess is that job cuts are warranted.

It is NOR, not NAND (so to speak).

Micron's Jobs Butchery in Italy
Jimmy59   3/25/2014 8:21:21 PM
NO RATINGS
Micron Jobs cut in Italy appears to be ungratefull and short-seeing if we look at what Micron "harvested" from its "company shopping" in Italy:
  1. A solid position in the highly remunerative market of Automotive
  2. A consolidated customers relationship network in the ritical market of the "code storage" (NOR) memories
  3. A "nursery" of next generation products for the above mentioned markets
  4. Promising Technologies for future products and markets (the PCM)
  5. Valuable Contributions in terms of Intellectual Property
  6. Expertized Work Teams, inserted in a consolidated multi-site jobs network
  7. Marketing Strategy, Technical and Scientifical knowledge

This jobs "killing" seems also non-sensical and deceiving after the high number of awards Micron recognized in 2013 to many ialian Teams and after the the money spent for "moving home" to a brand-new site involving the Agrate site just before the announced cuts!.  God bless Micron!

As data rates begin to move beyond 25 Gbps channels, new problems arise. Getting to 50 Gbps channels might not be possible with the traditional NRZ (2-level) signaling. PAM4 lets data rates double with only a small increase in channel bandwidth by sending two bits per symbol. But, it brings new measurement and analysis problems. Signal integrity sage Ransom Stephens will explain how PAM4 differs from NRZ and what to expect in design, measurement, and signal analysis.
