IMO, it's important to have some self-discipline when using words like ground, common, return, and related. Sloppy use of these words easily leds to sloppy thinking and then sloppy designs. Plus, even if you are 100% clear in your mind, maybe the person to whom you are speaking (or emailing) is not--and may choose/use the wrong one. So watch your words, both spoken and in print, on schematics, and labels.
