Yes, that should be "higher" SNR, just as I believe your last question should be "does SNR increase as size shrinks". The trends are to smaller sizes--already die sizes are dipping below 1 mm--but I don't believe scaling is the sole contributor to higher SNR.

I am pretty sure Colin menat higher SNR...agred, it woud be nice to get more technical details

thank you Colin....interesting enough I don't recognize the top 3 names...I thought Analog Devices, STM and Boesh would be in that group (I guess Invensesne kind of is proxy for ADI)

According to IHS Knowles is way out front in the top 10 followed by AAC, Invensense (through its acquisition of Analog Device MEMS mic business), Goertek, STMicroelectronics, Hosiden, BSE, Wolfson, Bosch and NeoMEMS.

The author wrote "Vendors are demanding, and getting, lower signal-to-noise (SNR) specs for sensing the softest sounds,..."

Shouldn't that be higher signal-to-noise specs?

Interesting uses for these micro-mics, but would be nice to get some technical info as well - how they are fabricated, how small they can be made, does SNR reduce as size shrinks, etc?

24% annual growth, pretty impressive...who is the market leader?

Its the voice command algorithms that do that magic, but the old "garbage-in garbage-out" rule applies here too, in that the higher definition the MEMS mic, the more accurate will be the recognition of voice commands.

Looks like the microphones will play a huge role in making sure the voice command of any smart phone will work accurately.
