DrFPGA: wind river has built an embedded hypervisor(which is a pretty good way to secure applications against malware) , in 10K lines of code. I don't know what micruim has, but lines of code is not a good way to judge it.

@Rick, the growth numbers for Micrium were interesting. Do you know if they are from developers moving up from programming to bare metal or dropping back from more-complex Linux environments? My bet would be on the former.

@DrFPGA: Great questions Freescale is promoting Java for IoT security, but they know it is not ready for small nodes and is not in itself sufficient.

Agreed, security is a big issue...do you worry about just being able to read IoT data or hacking it to generate false data?

The three most important IoT elements will be Security, Security and Security.

I would be interested in what level of security (if any) you can fit into 50K of code. How are security keys managed? How about DPA mitigation? So many questions...
