In the group I hung around with in Zim in my younger days (well it was Rhodesia then) the party trick was to say "Bulawayo" while burping - very uncouth but quite funny if everyone present has had the said  few beers.   (Bulawayo is Zim's second city.)

Now I'm in Australia, a nation which considers it un-Australian not to burp (whether drinking or not) I have tried to get my fellow Australians to try it using "Tumbarumba' which has the requisite 4 syllables.  Success so far has been a bit mixed......

(afterthought - I think it's called "Belching" over there???)

@DrFPGA: If I get any good suggestions during the chat I will post them here. Easier than scrolling thru 20 pages of chat to find them.

That sounds like a great plan -- let's call it "Plan A" so that no one gets confused LOL

I'm interested in how to share projects. Some of the existing methods (Github for example) seem overly complex for the new user (IMHO). If anyone has some suggestions for better/easier sharing methods please attend the chat!

@ elizabethsimon This caused us to have to buy a USB programming dongle to program the FPGA on our project because all the ones we had on hand were for parallel ports.

I have never found to date, a parallel port USB that would do the two way communications, Have you found one that works? I have a good seial USB but all my other parallel USB units are useless.

If we are talking family PC useage then I dread to think what the total of machines are.

This may be why Apple Mac are more expensive as we seem to be able to keep these going longer, from the sofware side and hardware.

If I ever manage to get the FPGA code right I will reinvent my beloved UK101 home built computer in one chip. I still have the roms.

Yes Max it's been a lot longer than a year since I started to learn VHDL but I am getting there. It's just that there are so many interesting baubles to play with along the self education route.

No fair Googling!

I got it right away -- I grew up listening to Tom Lehrer.  [Those who met me at "EE Live!" nod knowingly.]  My parents have the 10" LP.
