By some strange quirk of fate, Duane Benson just introduced me to a relevant XKCD Cartoon (first read the cartood dialog, and then read the caption under the cartoon)

Hi Max,

Great list of books, by the way!

Do you think it's possible there may be metal robots (As opposed to "meat" robots) at EELive breakfast in 2016? If so, what will you serve them?

Well, it all depends if Duane has finished his Robot Avatar by then (he's promissed to make one for me also, so we could have two there).

If so, what will you serve them?

Hopefully, they will be serving us LOL

I ordered In Search of Time. I'll get The Disappearing Spoon next and others after that. Or, I'll get in my time machine and use overlapping time to order them simultaneousl...

[Duane #2 here - I've already ordered and read The Disappearing Spoon]

[Duane #3 here - Dang. I messed with the space-time continuum and in this instantiation of me, I don't have a job and can't afford books.]

The Disappearing Spoon is the best book I've read in a few years. My daughter devoured it as well.

I read many Heinlein books back in the day, but I don't recognise that one.

It was a short story in a larger book...

I wasn't so enamoured of his follow up book The Violinist's Thumb. I see he has a new one The Tale of the Dueling Neurosurgeons. Maybe I'll get into that soon.

In browsing similar books I found this Smoking Ears and Screaming Teeth: A Celebration of Scientific Eccentricity and Self-Experimentation. Anyone read it?

I agree -- it was still a good book, but not as god as The Disappearing Spoon

of Calvin & Hobbes fame -- he replicates himself so he can play while his other selves do his homework.  IIRC, there were two sequences, one just involving replication and the other involving Calvins from different times -- and predictably, in both cases the Calvins end up fighting....

I LOVE Calvin & Hobbes -- I have all of the cartoon books -- I also like it when we see things from the perspective of one of the parents, in which case Hobbes is seen as a stuffed toy, as opposed to the live creature perceived by Calvin.

I knwo it sounds weird, but Calvin sometimes reminds me of me (when I was younger, of course :-)

Max-

Maybe you can create a suggested 'reading' list for graphic novels next. Start with the Sandman series by Neil Gaiman?

It probably won't surprise you to hear that I could do that -- I have a bunch of them here in my office ... I'll add it onto my list of "things to do" :-)

PS I have the Sandman collection
