While I can't imagine what an Australian bagel might teste like, I'm sure you'll find it better than bacon :-)

@Antedeluvian - I found another Bagel place right on the road I will be using in a couple of weeks time when I go to Sydney for a Tektronix roadshow.   Looking forward to it!

@Antedeluvian.....sounds good...Bondi is a bit off my beaten track but I'll try to make a detour there sometime when I am in Sydney.  Thanks for that.

@MB - just looked them up and found "chewy, onion-topped kuchen"

I reckon it would not take much for me to acquire a taste for those either!!

As pointed out in your link, true capers are the flower buds of the caper plant.  But a friend of mine, or maybe my mom, years ago tried Nasturtium seeds and they were not bad.  I have a lot of nasturtiums in the garden and the frosts are beginning here so when I pull them out I might try that.  You can also use nasturtium leaves and flowers in salads - crisp peppery taste.

How about bacon on top of lox?  With capers, no less.  Oh, if only the world were so good to me.

Nothing gets worse with bacon.

By the way did you know that capers are Nasturtium seeds. Or at least some of them.

By the way, I will contact some of my friends in Sydney to see where they get theirs.
