@junko: the question is - how does cracking bluetooth compares with breaking a regular electronic key fobs. a rough google search shows it possible.

@alex_m1, it's funny because one of the industry analysts I was talking to me this morning also sent me this exact same article. I will be probing this issue further.

security issues of BLE in a car

Does anyone have any insight on the security issues of BLE, once it starts to get used for opening and closing a door of a car (windows, etc.)?

Is it even remotely a conceivable for some total strangers -- other than you and your family members -- open your car door while you are driving?

Is BLE in a car credible?

I would have been a lot more skeptical if Bluetooth low energy (BLE) in a car was pitched on the basis of "consumers' growing appetite for opening the door of a car via their smartphones."

My discussion with TI was fascinating, I am now more convinced of it, simply because there is a lot of economic incentives on the part of automakers to go for BLE.

Are you also seeing the proliferation of BLE in automotive sector (beyond the control of infotainment systems)?

@ewertz, I apologize. My mistake. I corrected the parts numbers above in the story. Thanks!

"SimpleLink CC2541 (dualmode Bluetooth)"

I think you mean SimpleLink CC2561/CC2564 rather than CC254x, as the latter is a BLE-only (or proprietary) solution, and has no SimpleLink family member (at least not yet).
