@Antedeuvian: No we would do it out in the open where we could start a veldt fire.

Does this explain your eventual relocation to Canada? LOL

Doubtless you were under the bedsheets so no one would see you LOL

That would be dangerous. No we would do it out in the open where we could start a veldt fire.

@Antedeluvian: I remeber as a kid playing a game, trying to extract a match, closing the box and successfully striking a match using only one hand.

but I don't remember them being wooden boxes

Ours definitely were back then. I remeber as a kid playing a game, trying to extract a match, closing the box and successfully striking a match using only one hand.

@Antedeluvian: The ones marked Lion Match in this montage, are the way I remember them.

My dad used to use Lion matches in a yellow box like the ones in the upper left-hand corner (he smoked a pipe) -- but I don't remember them being wooden boxes

The ones marked Lion Match in this montage, are the way I remember them. You will have to complete the picture by imagining David's matrix.

Hi David, To give an Idea of the size of the small boxes, a pound coin (euro) will just fit on the lid, the depth is about a pound coin deep. The lids flip up when opened and they are just great for smd resistors and capacitors.

I got my first set when I bought an E25 run of SMD capacitors and since then I buy them for any smd items.

@David: Alas, I threw out my last dilapidated matchbox chest some years ago so I have no picture to show you.

I really wanted to see a picture of one of those -- you shoudl have kept them for "old time's sake"

@TonyTib: I got lucky a few years ago and picked up a bunch when Lowe's was blowing them out at $2/each

This sort of thing doesn't happen often -- but it's so nice when the winds of fate do blow one's way :-)

@Antedeluvian: One thing you can do with this approach is to screw the lid on the underside of a shelf giving you much more storage space.

I'd forgotten about that trick -- my uncle used to do that with jars full of screws and nails and nuts and bolts and stuff...

What are the engineering and design challenges in creating successful IoT devices? These devices are usually small, resource-constrained electronics designed to sense, collect, send, and/or interpret data. Some of the devices need to be smart enough to act upon data in real time, 24/7. Specifically the guests will discuss sensors, security, and lessons from IoT deployments.
