Microsoft has already tested the turbulent waters by testing an improving its Windows OS for mobiles. Though the bad time for Nokia is far from over, it will be interesting to see whether Nokia will keep the smartphone lines running Android OS.

The seeds of this acqisitions were sow in early 2011 when Elop announced that Nokia with partnership with Microsoft and will ship only Windows phones. That was one masterstroke of Ballmer that Finnish board could not understand. This is victory of that masterstroke.

Congrats to Microsoft. Now they have to run this business and provide more competition in the industry. We are turning into utilities like system in the industry with Android and iOS. Hope Windows can crack that party. It will be hard but they need to try.

As data rates begin to move beyond 25 Gbps channels, new problems arise. Getting to 50 Gbps channels might not be possible with the traditional NRZ (2-level) signaling. PAM4 lets data rates double with only a small increase in channel bandwidth by sending two bits per symbol. But, it brings new measurement and analysis problems.
