2X and counting

FYI, Mike has already exceeded his Kickstarter project's modest goal by more than 2X -- I only wish I could say the same for my own Kickstarter project LOL.

Hi Max,

Got into backing this for a reward very nearly on day one, soon to get made board and a bag of bits.

Which is why I shall be starting on making my own reflow oven, may even get this little beauty to do the control of the oven.

I will be using this oven that a big PCB player says seems to work for DIY http://www.newburyelectronics.co.uk/blog/low-cost-smd-lead-free-solder-paste-reflow

As ever Crusty doing something odd.

Well if I get the time temperature profile wrong, the smell could be burning chips and resistors. I think a blog could be in the offing for the oven.As long as I can get the other blogs out  the pipe line not all EE-Times.

There have been at least three projects on Kickstarter using this type of approach, two were funded one not.

Do not think PWM is needed as the thermal lag calls only for a variable on off time to the heaters.

Just waiting for the thermocouple Amps to be delivered and then I can get the oven from the white goods outlet ARGOS, I think £80 all in should see the job done.

You can tell Mrs Crusty that you are finally giving her the second oven she always wanted (this can be her Birthday present this year) LOL

@Max; She has the two ovens already.

With the idea of this as a birthday present she suggests that she might be considering hot Max burgers if you vist the South of England soon.(-( LOL

Giving the massive number of Kickstarter projects, I think you really have to spend a lot of time promoting your project.  Good luck next time, Max!

I think our problem was that we aimed high for the number to sell so as to bring the board prices down -- but the boards are not actually the most expensive item (just the ones we could control) -- it's the cost of the connectors that killed us.

We are currently talking about relaunching the project with a much lower goal and a different pricing model.

Watch this space LOL

As has been discussed in the past, it's easy to spend a lot of money on connectors.  OTOH, if you go too cheap, that's not good either.

I spend way too much time obsessing over connectors, but it's worth it in the end (I'm currently in the middle of designing a bunch of break out boards with lots of connectors)

@TonyTib: Can I persuade you to upload a photo to your profile -- I see so many of your posts -- it would be great to see who I'm talking to -- if not a photo then at least a graphic icon you feel represents your personality :-)
