He's trying to calculate the ratio of the circumference of a circle to it's diameter in base 8. We're trying to see how many digits he goes before he gives up. The project is called Occupy Octopi with Octal Pi.

Sure it's messy, smelly, and has no idea what it is doing, but it was the owners son's idea.

Everyone came to see Joe's new project - he told them it was a multi-ARM design, carbon-based, water cooled with a central neural processor.....

@Karen while you were in YouTube looking at the "Octopus's Garden" video, did you chance to look at the "Maxwell's Siver hammer" video?   Pretty bloodthirsty stuff.....

David, it may indeed have been inspired by your comment.  Who knows what caused it to surface from my subconcious.  Glad you liked it!

Salbayang, I had that song circling around in my mind today also, and I've also had Eight Days a Week in my mind though under the the cartoon-related title, Eight Legs a Week. :)

kfield, sounds like a nice place to vacation.  I like the video too--well done and whimsical, just like the song. Per the wikipedia, the recording took 32 takes!

@seaEE Thanks for sharing this delightful video and prose! My experience with being in an octupus' garden was while snorkeling off the coast of Hondurus, and it lives up to every claim in the song.
