@goafrit: Frankly, I am not sure how deep Samsung's R&D is in the key medical aspects of this sector.

I suspect Younjg Sohn is championing it in part because it is one key aspect of the next big thing in its mobile competition with Apple.

@prabhakar_deosthali: I share your mixed feelings about this sloooowly emerging category of products.

Donald Jones made the good point that glucose monitors have gone retail, essentially giving many peoploe the chance to manage theor own diabetes quite successfully. This will be the pattern with many other ailments, he said.

As an engineer I am excited about these new wearable technologies that are set to revolutionize the medical diagnostic and health care aids.

But as a common man I am a bit skeptical whether such high profile gadjets will be pushed onto the consumers unnecessarily .

With half knowledge and the self diagnostic aids such as these wearable devices , many people are bound to become over anxious about their health parameters and may get get addicted to such gadgets to unnecessarily keep monitoring their health parameters and start popping pills based upon some half baked knowledge available on internet.

With scale, cost drops. That is what Samsung does well.

From graphene to medicals, Samsung is a more researched company than most of its competitors. So when they get on board like this, we expect real changes in the industry. Very soon, medical diagnosis will be home-done.

Is this biometric data is really going to create any benefit while so many advanced medical products that are built to these tasks are not really able to deliver the actual need.
