There is a lot of Wi-Fi, base station and future handset work as well as automotive radar cropping up in 60-80 GHz that may be motiviating this in part.

Options for Analog Devices

It is very difficult to logically analyze this move by Analog Devices. Analog Devices must have more options. Why they moved to RF and microwave?

I feel it is logical because it is a market space that none of the other big analog

players TI, Maxim, Linear have any hold on...infact there is virtually no presence...

May be that means higher margins...

Yes, ADI has played around with RF and communication for two decades or more. It may be to cpmplete that desire. But $2B is a big amount. Unless Apple or like is backing them.

It is a very interesting acquisition.  I am anxious to see what kinds of components they might be producing a year or two from now.

@hm: when compared to ADI's market cap (which is ~$17.1B), $2B is about 12%. ADI's revenue is ~$2.7B.  HITT on the otherhand has a market cap of $2.5B BUT the gross yearly revenues were only at $276M. So I am not convinced that the price tag ADI paid is a fair one. If I were a HITT insider, I would happily take the money and run!
