Another option, (maybe the one you meant): zinc phosphide. (If they can crank up the efficiency).

It seems to me that every week there is another "breakthrough" that will lower the costs of solar panels. Most really require a few miracles on the way to commercialization and will take a long time (if they ever see the light of day).

This new chemical mixture approach sounds like it works and doesn't require a lot of research and development. What are we waiting for? Why hasn't it been implemented?

@Wnderer It does kind of make you think twice about tofu if one of the ingredients is in something like bath salt or de-icing compounds - as if I needed another reason to NOT like it!

@kfield Er, not exactly. The component is magnesium chloride (which is extracted from seawater) and is a common ingredient in aromatic bath salts, tofu, and chemicals used to melt ice. yum.

Er, not exactly. The comopnent is magnesium chloride (which is extracted from seawater) and is a common ingredient in aromatic bath salts, tofu, and chemicals used to melt ice. yum.

The researcher I interviewed would only speak to "significantly less cost." I trust that the word "slash" wasn't hyperbole on my part?

As data rates begin to move beyond 25 Gbps channels, new problems arise. Getting to 50 Gbps channels might not be possible with the traditional NRZ (2-level) signaling.
