Thank you. I really enjoy the caption contest and Daniel Guidera's artwork. I commend Rich Pell on his sophisticated sense of humor. The cat could never get the hang of the spectrum analyzer. My favorite was the Octopus's Garden lyrics.

So I guess you're saying the other judges (like me) do not have a sophisitcated sense of humor?

Don't worry. Even if you don't have a sophisticated sense of humor, you still have acute appendicitis.

So, I'm not too proud to ask: are there to be no hints for us unsophisticated?  The only thing I can come up with is something to do with Schrödinger.

On these nature programs they often compare octopus intelligence to cats. Here's a quote.

http://www.sciences360.com/index.php/octopus-intelligence-8369/

"However what we know of octopi has led to their intelligence being described by scientists as roughly equivalent to that of a dog or cat."

Here is someone else's joke on the same theme.

@Wnderer: thanks for the background - and definitely, compliments on your winning caption!

@kfield: thanks, everyone likes reassurance they're not the only one!  In our defense I'd say this one was as much an "inside" joke as "over our heads," but I'm not looking to start a debate.

That cartoon is absolutely hilarious.  And I'd have gone for your cat caption instead, also very funny.  But then again, if I was judge, I'd win nearly every month.

The caption that won honorable mention because it cracked Rich Pell up. Can you explain?

Ah -- when I first saw this, my knee-jerk reaction was "Octo-puss" -- I really didn't think much beyond that.

Voice control on test equipment will meen you can probably get away with only three or four hands on your bench.

NEXT UPCOMING BROADCAST
In conjunction with unveiling of EE Times’ Silicon 60 list, journalist & Silicon 60 researcher Peter Clarke hosts a conversation on startups in the electronics industry. One of Silicon Valley's great contributions to the world has been the demonstration of how the application of entrepreneurship and venture capital to electronics and semiconductor hardware can create wealth with developments in semiconductors, displays, design automation, MEMS and across the breadth of hardware developments. But in recent years concerns have been raised that traditional venture capital has turned its back on hardware-related startups in favor of software and Internet applications and services. Panelists from incubators join Peter Clarke in debate.
