For RivieraWaves, a four-year old startup, to have signed up more than 25 licensees in such a short-time is truly remarkable.

I used to think that both Bluetooth and WiFi are pretty much commodity items these days. I had NO idea that such a big market for those IPs exists. Obviously, I was wrong.

Everyone and anyone, working on their designs to get connected, after all, would need these wireless solutions...

25 licensees in 4 years? Ha. Ha. Ha again say I. Its a count of IP licensing deals from before even RW was invented. And no, there is no big market for such IPs. And umm... annual licensing revenue of $22-24 million IS chump change.

@zehawki, thanks for your enlightening comment. But I must ask...if there is NO market for such IPs, as you say, why would companies like Dialog Semiconductor and Renesas want it from RivieraWaves?

@Junko: there may be more to this story than what is revealed in your article, such as IP that is in development that the companies may have chosen not to talk about.

I  think @zehawki is probably alluding to the fact that the landscape of devices for IoT is crowded. But the market is definitely there for billions of devices.

True, docdivakar. I agree.

But I would also like to point out that while many of us tend to think all those WiFi IPs are dime a dozen, the fact that RivieraWaves was the first in the market to offer Wi-Fi 802.11ac IP for smartphones and tablets might tell something about the entineering team.

Further for other wireless connectivity technologies in development at RivieraWaves, Ceva CEO mentioned during the intervew: 802.11ah, 802.11p and newer versions of Bluetooth.
