@Kinnar,

That is my point. Why, until today we are not able to find the basic elelments of the smell?

We have found the basic elements of the color ( our visual sense). We have found the basic elements of the sound ( the audio frequency range).

In the same way , if enough research effort is put, we should be able to identify the basic elements of smell , using which we should be able to reproduce any smell we want -  In my opinion.

With advance computing power available to us today, such analysis should be possible.

Ever wonder what they are detecting on Star Trek when they detect life signs? I figure they are more like life odors. An electronic 'dog nose' is really the first step to building a real tricorder. It needs to smell the air. Your dog doesn't just smell people. It can identify which one is you. I think this is really cool technology.

Identifying the Smell or Perfume is not yet possible; the author is just making a guess that with the application of the cloud and the sensors from Sensirion it would become possible to identify the smell or Perfume. Although it not so simple as it is written in the article. Still today no one has identified basic smells as we have identified basic colours. Through basic colours we can make any colour. But the same is not true for Smells.

Some interesting professional uses for this app, but I thought the concept of scratch-and-sniff was just plain silly. And I don't like those perfumed ads that sometimes get inserted into your paper or magazine.

Smell sensing application opportunity

With cloud support, the complex applications such as smell analysis are now possible as mobile apps, I suppose.

Is it now possible to recerate smell at the application level using the cloud based smell recipes and some kind of a chemical cartridge ( like a color printer cartridge) having some basic chemicals capable of generating the required smell based upon recipes.

Can some App developer take this idea? It will smell a good business!!
