You are incorrect, most of the job cuts will be outside of Germany.  Only 1700 out of 7800 will be in Germany

It may be one of the reason that the sales of the LED have not picked up as the company expected. People are replacing their incadecent lamps with LEDs but the price of LEDs are on a higher side.

New business comes; old business goes. This job cut indeed sounds to me is a cut of production related job. LED lighting is getting traction because of energy saving and largely on the reasonable price. Moving towards LED lighting, the production can all be done by a couple companies in China or Bangalore.

One relevant factor is that the LED replacements for incandescents measure life in tens of years, not hundreds of hours.

@wilber, I agree. What the company is not saying is where it is planning to move its production -- a glaring omission in my view.

I am not convinced about the reasons given by the company to justify such a massive job cuts. Most of the job cuts will be in Germany so i see a move to shift jobs to developing countries.

Thats a massive job cut. The lighting business must grow upwards since now people are getting aware of new technologies to save enery by choosing right lightings.
