I have almost finished reading (my e-reader's batteries just conked out) a book called "Us Conductors" by Sean Michaels. Based in fact, it is a fictional autobiography of Theremin. I compared it to the wikipedia entry and it follows quite closely. There is some fascinating stuff in there, including how he developed a bug that sat undetected in the US Ambassador's office in Moscow for 7 years. Although his descritption of life in the gulag is not as harrowing or confusing (because of the patronyms) as "A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich" they seem to be utterly believable, although the author seems to have had an entirely comfortable western life.
There are several engineering comments that indicate the author either has had electronic engineering experience or spent a lot of time with electronic engineers.
