@Jin: Maybe we can communicate offline on collecting data first...

Nice try, but I am snowed under workwise -- up to my armpits in alligators fighting fires without a paddle (I never metaphor I didn't like)

One way to do this would be to create a web-based program that allows lots of people to add snippets of data like company name and location and dates (mybe even major characters) and linkages between companies and so forth...

Haha, I was hoping you could take the lead. The idea is very interesting, I wouldn't mind getting involved in making it happen. Maybe we can communicate offline on collecting data first...

@Jin: Shouldn't be too hard to dig up all the data and have a designer create a poster that shows the evolution of EDA.

You're in charge -- I look forward to seeing it when you've got it done LOL

No I have not seen those posters but I can see what you are thinking of in my head. This would be a great project! Shouldn't be too hard to dig up all the data and have a designer create a poster that shows the evolution of EDA.

@Jin: Yes that would be very interesting and insightful!

Have you ever seen one of those posters showing how various rock-and-roll groups formed and then either renamed themselves or split up and the members joined other groups and so forth -- it really is interesting to see how this developed over time -- and I think the same would be true of EDA companies...

@Max,

The T&M Designline quiz for August 31 is about acquisitions in that business. Enjoy.

@Jin@Oski: Unfortunately I didn't plan for the Synopsys acqusition LOL.

I can't recall how many acquisitions I've seen since I started in this industry -- it woudl be very interesting to see a three-dimensional image showing the time-lines associated with the various EDA companies and how they's all intermingled and evolved...

@altamira: Fail to plan and you plan to fail.

This sums things up nicely.
