Sub-conscious problem solving

Again a wonderful example of solving a problem by letting it simmer on a back burner while the mind is freed with less strenuous thoughts.

A recent comment on Karen's blog "So Much Work, So Little Time for Engineers" from jeremybirch states  "2) how many really tough problems do you solve when you are not staring at them but instead you are doing something completely separate, like walking, reading a book, even sleeping?"

Or mountain biking. Good story, Billie.

Thanks, zeeglen. It's so true. I keep my phone in my jersey pocket so I can grab it and dicate thoughts that I'd surely lose before the end of a ride. Wonder if I could take your comment into my boss and lobby for company-sanctioned "simmering time" this fall when the trails are truly gorgeous...
