IPextreme to make Power.org member IP available

SAN FRANCISCO — Semiconductor intellectual property (IP) vendor IPextreme Inc. said Monday (Feb, 27) it is working with Power.org to accelerate the adoption of the Power Architecture by making member IP available.

According to IPextreme (Campbell, Calif.), Power.org members can complete system-on-chip (SoC) devices much faster if they take advantage of silicon-proven IP that other members have already completed. Until now, the company said, there was no easy mechanism enabling them to do so. IPextreme said it would upgrade key designs into commercially viable IP, license that IP and provide the support necessary for its successful integration.

"I'm excited to have a new VC-backed Power.org member, IPextreme, as their business offering may contribute to accelerate Power-based SOC design," said Juan Antonio Carballo, partner in the IBM venture capital group. "Power is becoming a disruptive play in the semiconductor market with its enormous flexibility ranging from consumer gaming devices to high-end supercomputers, together with its world-class venture capital community participation."

Power.org is an open community of developers, tool providers and manufacturers developing standards and applications around IBM's Power Architecture.
