MANHASSET, N.Y. Airspan Networks Inc. and Yozan Inc. have expanded their contract to build a WiMAX network in Tokyo by $5 million, bringing the total contract size to $16.7 million.
Airspan (Bocat Raton, Fla.) and Yozan (Tokyo) announced in March plans to build a Tokyo-wide WiMAX network transmitting voice, video, and broadband data services. The network would use Airspan's software-upgradeable radio technology and eventually be upgraded to support 802.16e.
"We are very pleased with Yozan's decision to expand the network," said Henrik Smith-Petersen, president of Asia Pacific for Airspan Networks, in a statement. "We are both looking forward to a very successful implementation, in one of the world's top five cities, of what will be the first major deployment of a WiMAX Metropolitan Area Network."
