MANHASSET, N.Y. Shipments of Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) displays rose 82 percent year-over-year to 14.2 million units the second quarter of 2005, according to market research firm DisplaySearch Inc.
Second-quarter OLED sales revenue was $124.8 million, up 18 percent over a year ago, the firm said.
According to DisplaySearch, passive-matrix OLED displays accounted for much of the growth in sales, with active-matrix OLED shipments still miniscule at under 50,000. The key OLED applications were main displays for mobile phones and displays for MP3 players, with shipments of 7.1 and 6.1 million, respectively.
Samsung SDI led suppliers in units and revenue with slightly over 3.8 million displays shipped and $37.2 million in revenue. RiTdisplay trailed Samsung in both shipments and revenue. LGE experienced the strongest growth of the top five suppliers, with shipments up 111 percent quarter-to-quarter to 740,000, and revenue growing 92 percent quarter-to-quarter to $6.5 million.
