SAN FRANCISCO LSI Logic is working with city and state government agencies in Oregon to help lure South Korean electronics giant Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. to the state, according to a report published Friday (Sept. 26) by the Portland Business Journal.
As part of its transition to a fabless strategy, LSI announced earlier this month that it would sell its 200-mm fab in Gresham, Ore.
According to Friday's Portland Business Journal report, LSI has been supplying information to Samsung about the facility. In response to a Samsung request, government officials have also provided Samsung with information about Oregon's tax incentives and business environment, the report said.
The report quoted an LSI official saying the company is working with government agencies in Oregon to provide an incentive package for a buyer, preferably one that would keep the fab intact and retain its workforce.
Samsung reportedly said last month that Oregon, Arizona and Texas were being considered as potential sites for the company's planned $3.5 billion, 300-mm U.S. fab.
